In this class, we explored the digital archives of our school, Texas A&M- Commerce, and worked with different mediums to bring the stories of previous students back to life. It was especially fun to be working with so much history given that this was our school's 125th anniversary! It really felt like the perfect time to see where we started and how far we've come. It was fun to get to work with this technology again, as I haven't really had the opportunity to since high school, and though I'm not exactly the most tech savvy, I enjoyed finding ways to make these pictures come back to life.
It wasn't the easiest class and it was very stressful at times. Technology isn't always nice. There were times my laptop would decide to crash or I would lose work before I managed to save anything, and those 2 A.M. frustrations will not be forgotten. However, besides the perils that accompany technology, I think I was confused by what the assignments entailed sometimes, and that made actually starting them rather difficult. And then finding an angle to work with took me longer than I thought it would. Luckily, once I got the gist of what was being asked and was able to find a direction that was both interesting to me and satisfied the assignment, I had a lot of fun, as the archives really do hold so much fascinating history. The assignments had rocky starts, but I can't say I wasn't proud of them by the end.
Overall, I think I enjoyed this class a lot. I didn't even know we had digital archives, much less did I ever think I would be digging through them. Technology is always going to have its hassles and I don't always know how to manipulate programs and effects to get them to work out the way I imagine them, but technology has also helped preserve so many great artifacts of Commerce history, and I'm really glad I was able to take a class that let me see that.
